Messages and chat with fans
How to organise your inbox with the Active, Priority and Archived tabs, how to message your Fans first and how to protect yourself from people who cross the line, in private and live.
In this article
Messages are the most direct channel with the people who support you: that’s where requests start, Fans are won over and people decide whether to come back. Here’s how to keep your inbox in order, how to message your Fans first and how to protect yourself from people who don’t respect the rules.
Your inbox
Open Messages from the menu. Conversations are split into three tabs:
- Active — ongoing conversations, priority ones included;
- Priority — only conversations with Fans who have priority messages in their level;
- Archived — the ones you’ve set aside.
Priority messages carry a mark that sets them apart, and the counter tells you how many are still unread. Answering them first is the simplest way to make Fans on the higher levels feel in the right place.
For each conversation you can Pin to top, Mute — no notifications from that chat — and Archive. With View profile you see who’s writing to you.
Writing first
You can reach out first to people who haven’t written to you yet only if they’re members of your Fan Club. Press Message a fan, search among your Fans and open the conversation. You can also do it from the Fans tab of your Fan Club, with Message.
It’s a rule that protects viewers from unsolicited messages, and it makes your Fan Club even more valuable: your Fans know they can hear from you directly.
Good practice
- Reply regularly, even just to say thanks for a tip: replies are what make people come back.
- Suggest your Fan Club to people who write often: with priority messages they’ll know they have a preferred channel.
- Don’t share outside contacts. Phone numbers, private profiles and payments outside Sweetly expose your privacy and are forbidden by the Terms.
- Don’t ask for payments outside the platform: besides breaking the rules, they leave you unprotected in case of disputes.
When someone crosses the line
In private
- Press Report this message next to the message: it goes to the moderation team, which can suspend the account’s chat or the whole account.
- Mute or Archive the conversation so you don’t see it anymore.
- To shut that person out completely, block them from Restrictions and blocks: they won’t be able to message you or see your profile and content. If you try to write to them, you’ll read You blocked this person: unblock them to write.
Live
Tap the name in the chat and choose Mute for a minute or Block from chat. On the third mute the chat block kicks in automatically. Staff receive a report with the latest messages. All the controls are in Going live.
Message notifications
In Settings, Notifications tab, choose whether to be alerted about new messages on the site, as a push notification or by email. With Sweetly installed on your phone you get them even when the site is closed: see Install Sweetly on your phone.
Frequently asked questions
Can I message my followers first?
You can only write first to members of your Fan Club. Others can write to you, and from then on you reply normally.
What are priority messages?
A perk you can include in your Fan Club levels: those Fans’ messages rise to the top of your inbox, with a mark, and you find them grouped in the Priority tab.
How do I stop receiving messages from someone?
Block them from the Restrictions and blocks page: they won’t be able to message you or see your profile. If you just don’t want to be disturbed, mute or archive the conversation.
Do messages earn me money?
Sending and receiving messages costs nobody anything. You earn when people who write to you unlock your content, send you a tip or join your Fan Club.
