Age verification

Some countries require by law an actual age check before granting access to an adult site, distinct from the plain declaration made at sign-up. This page explains when the check applies on Sweetly, how it works, and what happens to the data it processes.
1. When it applies
The check only activates for accounts signing in from a country where it is legally required, following a list the platform keeps up to date. Anyone outside that list never encounters this step: the age declaration made at sign-up remains sufficient.
Once completed successfully, the result stays valid for the account and is not asked again on every login.
2. How it works
Verification runs through GO.cam, an age-estimation engine with two methods: a webcam-based facial age estimate, or an ID document scan. If the first method returns a result too close to the legal threshold, the second is offered instead.
Processing happens entirely inside the browser of the person completing it: the webcam image or the document is never sent to either Sweetly or the engine's original maker. Sweetly only receives the outcome — passed or not — never the material used to reach it.
3. The provider
GO.cam is an open-source engine, distributed under the AGPL-3.0 license. Sweetly runs its own installation, hosted on its own systems: no one using the check ever leaves the site, and no data crosses the original project's servers.
The verification method is certified by the German authority for the protection of minors online (KJM) and the Age Check Certification Scheme, and recommended by ASACP.
4. Code transparency
Having adapted the original engine's visual appearance, the AGPL-3.0 license requires making the modified source code available to anyone interacting with the service. It is published here: github.com/btonicio/sweetly_ageveriify.
5. Data retained
Sweetly's own systems retain only the outcome of the check (passed or not) and the date it happened — never an image, a frame, or a copy of the document shown. How account data is handled overall is described in the Privacy Policy.
