Age verification

Sweetly is for adults only, and everyone confirms it when they sign up. In some countries, though, the law asks for more: a real age check before giving access to an adult site. If you connect from one of those countries, we ask you for a quick check, done once only.

When it’s required

The check only applies to people connecting from a country where the law requires it. We keep that list up to date as the rules change. If your country isn’t on it, you never see this step: the age declaration you made when signing up is enough.

When it’s needed, you’ll see the Age verification required screen with a button to start. Until you complete the check, pages with adult content stay closed; information pages, like this help center and the legal notices, always stay reachable.

How it works

The check uses GO.cam, an age verification system that offers two methods.

1. With your webcam or phone camera. You look at the lens for a few seconds and the system estimates your age from your face.
2. With an ID document. If the face estimate is too close to the legal threshold, you’re offered the option of showing a document to the camera.

When the check succeeds you’ll see Age verified, and on the Account page your status becomes Age verified. We don’t ask again, not even from other devices you use to sign in to the same account.

Tips so you don’t have to repeat it

• Find a well-lit spot, with the light in front of you rather than behind.
• Take off sunglasses, hats or masks.
• If the browser asks for permission to use the camera, allow it: without it, the check can’t start.
• If you use a document, place it on a dark surface and avoid reflections.

What happens to the images

This is the most important part, so we’ll say it plainly: the image of your face or your document never leaves your device. The analysis happens entirely in the browser. Neither Sweetly nor the system’s provider receives the photo: we only get the result, passed or not.

GO.cam is open-source software. Sweetly runs its own installation on its own servers, so you never leave the site during the check. The method is certified by the German authority for the protection of minors online (KJM) and by the Age Check Certification Scheme. All the details are on the Age verification page.

If something goes wrong

• We couldn’t start the age check. Press Retry after a moment. If it keeps happening, reload the page.
• The camera won’t turn on. Check the site permissions in your browser settings and make sure no other app is using the camera.
• Verification failed. Try again with better light, or use a document.
• You’re using a VPN. Your country is determined by where you connect from. A VPN can make you appear to be in a different country and trigger a check you wouldn’t otherwise see, or the other way round.

If you still can’t complete it, open a ticket with the browser and device you’re using.

What about performers?

For those who publish, the check is different and stricter, wherever they are: the application requires an ID document and a selfie holding the document, reviewed by hand by our team, as required by record-keeping rules (18 U.S.C. 2257). See How to apply as a performer.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to verify my age if I already declared it?

Because in the country you’re connecting from the law requires a real check, not just a declaration. In other countries you won’t be asked.

Does Sweetly store a photo of my face or my document?

No. The analysis happens in your browser and the images aren’t sent to anyone. Sweetly only receives and stores the result of the check.

Do I have to do it every time I sign in?

No. Once passed, it stays valid for your account, on other devices too.

Can I use Sweetly without verifying my age?

In the countries where it’s required, no: pages with adult content stay closed until the check succeeds. Only information pages stay open.
